What is Surbahar?

Surbahar is a Plucked String Instrument which resembles to a pouplar Indian Instrument Sitar. The only Difference is that surbahar has a lower tone. Hence, it is widely known as Bass Sitar.

The body is generally crafted from Tun Wood or Teak Wood and Toomba (Resonator) is crafted from Dried out Gourd. There are many frets on the neck and hence they help in gliding to six notes by pulling method. Also there are around 25 strings and 2 bridges. It is played using a mizrab which is a metallic plectrum.

This beautiful dark Bawabros surbahar is one of the best surbahar you can get your hands on. This is especially made by our craftsman who specialises in this instrument, rather his last 3-4 generations are into surbahar making. Any professioonal player will love to add this instrument to his collection.

The wood used in neck is thoroughly dried tun wood and very good quality gourd which can produce excellent resonance for years to come. It plays from C to D#. The instrument his hand finished and all the small to big details have been taken care of. The instrument snugly fits into the fiber case provided to make it a long lasting instrument. The quality of the fiber case too is very good. Extra string set is provided.

NOTE: It is advised to please open the packing of the instrument so that it gets aired and it stays in tune. Also, it is recommended to keep it away from extreme hot or damp area.

Tun Wood has been used in crafting this Surbahar. It Main Toomba has been crafted from dried gourd and strings are all made from Brass.
