Monoj Kumar Sardar & Bros, MKS to most players, build in Kolkata, which is one of the historic homes of the craft.

What players consistently praise on their professional instruments is key action and reed voicing, the two things that are hardest to fix later and easiest to feel within a minute of playing. Their range with us runs into scale changers and multi-reed instruments, which is where that workshop's reputation was built.

MKS or Bina? Both are respected houses and neither is simply better. Bina is the Delhi standard, the instrument most of the world learns on, and superb value in the two-reed standard class. MKS sit above them in specification and finish, and are where you go for a professional scale changer. Can they be serviced outside India? Yes. Reeds, valve leather and springs are standard harmonium parts and nothing about MKS construction is proprietary. Any competent harmonium technician can work on one.

MKS also build our shruti boxes, and their string workshop makes sitars and tanpuras.
