Dayan (Single Tabla)
The treble drum on its own.
Three kinds of people buy these: players replacing a worn dayan, players keeping a practice drum somewhere they travel to often, and players pairing a better treble with a bayan they already like. The dayan takes almost all of the playing stress in tabla, so it wears faster than the bayan, which makes it the most common repeat purchase working players make.
Will a new dayan match my old bayan? Yes. They are independent drums and any well-made dayan pairs with any bayan. Match the pitch to your music, not to the bayan.
Which pitch should I order? Dayans are built toward a target range, commonly C to D. Tell us your scale on WhatsApp and we will select and tune to it before shipping.
How long does a puri last? Years of regular playing before the skin or shyahi degrades noticeably. When it does, any tabla technician can reskin the shell. This is why buying a good shell is worth it: the shell outlives several skins.
