About Sitar
The Sitar is the most popular melody instrument in classical northern Indian music with sarod and tanpura – the long neck musical instruments of the lute family. The Sitars that are being made nowadays can be divided into two main categories – Ravishankar style and Vilayat Khan Style. Different styles of music are played on both types.
Sitars in the Ravi Shankar style usually have 2 resonance boxes, 13 sympathetic resonant strings and 7 playing strings. 4 of the 7 playing strings are played as melody strings and comprise 4 octaves. ON the other hand the Sitars in the "Vilayat Khan Style" have only one resonance box on principle. There are 11 sympathetic resonant strings and 6 playing strings, 2 of which are played as melody strings over a range of three octaves. The design is unsophisticated and decorations and inlays are sparse.

Please note that when you buy sitar from us and order it online, we always test the items before shipping to you. We also pack the instruments with great care so that they arrive in perfect condition. However, in a rare case, if you receive a damaged or defective item we will collect and replace it at our cost.
Please inform us within two days of the receipt of a defective item by sending an email to help@tablasitar.com along with the details of the defects and photographs. We will also ask to file a report with the courier company so that we can claim insurance.

Sorry, No Returns (yet!): All sales are final and we don't offer returns at the moment. We do, however, offer replacements if you receive defective or damaged items. We will be offering 7-day local US, UK and Canada returns very soon!
We Pay Custom Duties: If you have been charged a customs duty on your sitar, please email us a copy of the receipt on help@tablasitar.com within two days and we will pay it back to you. This only applies to USA and UK customers.
Remote-area Charge: If you live away from the city in a remote area in US/Canada/Australia, courier companies charge a little extra for delivery. Please click here to check if you live in a remote area. However, you can always collect the shipment from the nearest office of the courier company at no extra cost.
